The Community First Endowment Match Challenge Programme is run by Community Development Foundation (CDF), Community Foundation Network (CFN) and individual Community Foundations across the country on behalf of the Government’s Office for Civil Society.

Two Ridings Community Foundation has joined the Community First Endowment Match Challenge to create long-term support for North and East Yorkshire, York and Hull.

In this scheme, the government will increase all donations made before April 2015 by 50% by the government - every £200 becomes £300 at no extra cost to the donor.

If you want to make a difference in these areas take advantage of this scheme by donating or creating your own Community First Fund with your name on it!

On April 4th 2012 Wendy Bundy, Two Ridings' dedicated chair for over three years, passed on the baton to trustee, Christine Bainton.

Wendy will continue to support the Foundation as a trustee.

"I would like to say thank you to former-chair Wendy Bundy, who has helped make the Foundation what it is today. I am honoured to have the opportunity to continue her good work, and at such an exciting stage in our history – 2012 is the Foundation's 10th anniversary year!

I will strive to maintain and develop the Foundation's excellent work into our second decade."

The Richmond Swale Valley Community Initiative's 'Walking for Health' scheme received a £10,000 Comic Relief grant from Two Ridings in 2009. This fantastic project has since reached out to the elderly, disabled, isolated and those with poor health, inviting them to exercise and make new friends.

"We have clients, often long term sick and on low incomes, seeking help with fuel or replacement costs. We have even had cases of individuals living without any heating and/or hot water for two, even four, years before making contact with Age UK East Riding."

Age UK East Riding and H.E.R.A.C. (Hull and East Riding Arthritis Care) are the first groups to be awarded a grant from the Surviving Winter Grant Scheme.

Age UK East Riding is an independent local charity, under the umbrella of the national charity Age UK, which supports people over the age of 50.

Their 'Feel the Warmth Project',  aims to provide a practical support package to individuals living without heating in and around Beverley.

These packs will contain thermal blankets, hats and scarves, a vacuum flask and packet soups as well as support and advice to help them keep warm and well in the coldest months.

Established in 2002, HERAC supports individuals with arthritis by providing advice and social activities, from theatre visits to Tai Chi classes, encouraging members to enjoy their leisure time, make new friends and keep healthy.

The cold tends to cause people to tense and contracts muscles and joints already so uncomfortable in arthritis sufferers.

HERAC will therefore translate their grant into extra warmth for those with arthritis; providing snuggle wraps for in the home and transport to arthritis care meeting during bad weather.

Comic relief has launched Sport Relief Community Cash. This means a total of £50 000 is available to charitable projects and community groups across East Yorkshire and Hull via Two Ridings Community Foundation.

It is local people who know what their community needs. Therefore we aim to support local charities and community groups that will make a real difference to those in need and to encourage strong, vibrant and inclusive communities.

Despite the name, projects do not need to be sport related.

Last year Two Ridings administered Comic Relief's Red Nose Day Community Cash fund, which supported over 50 programmes. From inter-generational projects, football tournaments and line dancing

classes, to new furnishings and technologies, play and sports equipment, trips and events for clubs, groups, disabled individuals, carers underprivileged children and many more activities that have improved community cohesion and enhanced people's lives.

Happy New Year!

Help us keep the tradition of philanthropy alive

 With the help of Red Nose Day Community Cash and Two Ridings, West Hill Community Centre has drawn more young people off the streets and into more positive activities.

 The Centre, which aims to tackle poverty and its resulting problems, serves young people in on of the most deprived areas in the country in terms of skills, education and training

Dressing to impress for the first ever 12 and over Christmas party

Rebecca Cockerill of the Centre:

"It was a great night, the young people really pulled together and cotributed, bringing music, a karaoke machine and dressing up for the occassion!"

Seeing police involvement with young people in the ridlington area on the increase, the five-year-old centre was keen to reach those hardest to engage.

With a grant from Two Ridings they bought new equipment, craft and games to increase appeal.

But they did not stop there. The grant also funded provisions for youth workers to take to the streets and engage with young people directly.

This not only increased attendence but also led to a reduction in complaints regarding young people loitering in the evenings.

Rebecca: "Thanks to this grant we have been able to reach young people who have never attended out of school provision before."
