Day 2

Day 2 Pollington Airfield & Boothferry Bridge

Detour back to Pollington airfield to meet up with some of the volunteers who spend an enormous amount of time & effort establishing & maintaining the memorial garden to the flight crew who flew from the airfield during World War 2. The garden is a tranquil oasis in the middle of the decaying buildings which once was a base to over 2000 RAF personnel. It's also an important place for families from Britain & abroad to visit. Felt really privileged & honoured that they'd gone to the effort of putting out the flags for me!

Boothferry Bridge was yet another reminder of how things have changed since Walter's day - it had only been built in 1929 and he bemoaned having to cross the river that way rather than have the chance of human contact with the ferry man who would have been employed to transport people across the river. Imagine all of traffic on that road - as well as that on the nearby motorway bridge using a little ferry boat!

The plastic cows in the orchard at Eastrington perhaps pass another comment on our life in 2009. (Thankfully - I did see real ones as well)

Cycled almost to Hull but couldn't resist driving to the bridge to take a mournful photo in the rain. Hoping for better weather tomorrow.
